Exotic Urbanism
San Juan, Puerto Rico
A 200 foot grade change over a quarter mile gives the islet of San Juan two distinct edge conditions. Rocky cliffs and thin beaches define the Atlantic Ocean edge while the other is a gentle transition to the sea. This project focuses both on the experiential transition between urbanized space and the vastness of the ocean and on the insertion of intense programmatic elements without breaking the singular surface of the park. The design allows for uninterrupted views to the ocean while providing space for residents and tourists to explore and interact both recreationally and economically.
